How To Speed Legally

1) Go To The Isle Of Man

Roads outside of the towns and villages are "derestricted"... which on the Isle Of Man means just that: NO speed limits!

Some of the roads won't let you go too fast due to corners, quality of tarmac, traffic and (hopefully) common sense, but where safe you can experience some blinding moments on the island...and if you're still in doubt, just look at this view from the top of Snaefell mountain:

2) Join The Police

You may need to put more on your application form than "I want to legally speed", but it's probably half the (real) reason most officers join the traffic department.

In addition to speeding legally on duty, off duty cops also avoid speeding convictions as reported here by the Yorkshire Post. Out 437 officers that were caught speeding, only 29 were convicted! That's over 90% avoiding tickets!! They all used excuses like being on "urgent police duties" (despite being in their own vehicles or without blue lights flashing) or other such alibis.

If you sign up to the force that patrol the M25, you may get to drive one of the more exotic cars in the polices inventory which are aimed at keeping up with super cars heading in to and out of london:

3) Drive On The Autobahn

While not all areas of the German Autobahn are "derestricted" those that are men you can go as fast as you like. The roads are well maintained too...

4) Do A Track Day

You have two options: 1) you can use your own vehicle or 2) you can hire one. We recommend the later, especially as most track day providers offer a selection of vehicles. It's a great way to legally and safely burn some rubber and get your speed 'fix'.

5) Private Land

You can drive as fast as you want on private land, as well as being as young as you want.

A very important consideration however is the definition of private land. In a nut shell, you need to ensure a member of the public could not drive on to your land without realising they were trespassing. The best way to do this is a signed gate ...however it's always best to get a local legal expert or your local police force to sign off your set up on this.

6) Buy A Computer Game Console

And for the full experience, grab yourself a car seat and steering wheel.

7) Become A Foreign Diplomat...

...and it seems like you can do what you want.

Diplomatic vehicles are immune to Road Traffic Laws. Illustrating how widespread this problem can be is the French Police Force, who between November 2003 and 2004 caught 2,590 speeding diplomatic cars. None were prosecuted.

8) Become James Bond

As an MI6 agent, you'll be licensed to speed ...and according to the movies you'll be speeding in some of the most dramatic landscapes available. The suits are compulsory but we'd like to think the bullets are optional.

9) Join Other Emergency Services

As well as the police, other emergency services also get to break the speed limit: Fire Brigade, Ambulance, some doctors, bomb squads, etc. Basically, if they have blue lights, they can break the speed limit.

10) Become Prime Minister And Change The Law

Just make sure you're better than this guy:
(we know he's no longer PM, but he's got to have been the worst!)
